Record Breaking Kilt Run for Perth

Record breaking kilt run planned for Perth to be held in conjunction with Pipefest on Saturday 2nd June.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotlan...ntral-17319097

Perth will try to break the world record for people running in kilts as part of celebrations for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

The town also plans a "Big Jubilee Lunch" combining picnics and proms in the grassy North Inch.

The Kilt Run along an 8km route beside the Tay will aim to beat the record, set by its Canadian twin town of Perth, Ontario, of 1,089 runners.

A parade of 1,000 pipers from 400 bands will also take place on 2 June.

Perth and Kinross Council said the town - which hopes to be granted city status - would hold one of the largest civic celebrations of the Jubilee in Scotland.

Provost John Hulbert said: "The event will provide something for everyone.

"Local people will be able to bring their families and enjoy a picnic and entertainment.

"Visitors from near and far will see Perth showcased with the spectacular parade and we hope to make our name worldwide by breaking the kilt run record."

Kilt runners will be invited to raise funds for two nominated charities - ABF The Soldiers Charity and PKAVS which supports vulnerable people in Perth and Kinross.

Charles Dunphie, from ABF The Soldiers Charity, said: "We're hoping to see loads of different tartans out on the day.

"It's going to be really interesting to see which tartan has the most runners."

If I was wealthy Id be on a plane for that run. What a blast that would be.

I have friends there, if I could get the time off, and could afford it... I can't run at this time, but I'd sure walk it!

Unfortunetly I'll be running in the Hardmoors 110 that weekend (kilted off course) or I'd be there, Good luck to those who are.

I contacted Guiness world records before about Kilted running records,
Fastest Marathon in a kilt, Longest distance in a kilt and most people to run an ultramarathon in a kilt and they knocked back all my suggestions, which was pretty dissapointing when you see some of the crap running records they let through at the london marathon each year and the excuses they came up with.
Oh well, as I said before good luck and smash the record, I know a few kilted runners so I'll put the word out.

    Re: Perth Kilt Run

    Please post plenty of pics.
They are hoping for a record number of kilted runners.
On the same day there is also Pipefest in Perth with 1,000 marching pipers and drummers.
