    Re: Traditional Blackthorn Sticks

Two rather nice antique ones on ebay that I'd LOVE, but they're too short (~33") for me.

They'd probably fit someone who is around 5'9" or 5'10".

About a year ago a very good friend of mine passed away. He had one of these walking sticks for many years and I have it now. I"ll always keep it as a memory of him and after I came across this thread, I figured i'd post it up. He used it quite a bit and it's got some wear on it, especially on one side but still works just fine. It measures at 37" tall.

That is a treasure both for the sentimental value and because it is such a nice stick.

I agree, he was a very close friend and I miss him everyday. I never really understood the history of these but am getting to know it better now. It's also started me to try begin tracing my family back to Ireland, should be a fun journey.

This is my favorite that I've had for a number of years. I picked it up at a garage sale in Hamilton, Ontario.
