Hello From Maine
Hi everyone,
I got my first kilt as a wedding present from my wife about 4 years ago. I just recently found this forum as I was searching the web for instructions to make my own. I had also ordered the Art of Kilt Making book, and got an email confirmation telling me tocheck out the site as well.
That was a week or so ago, and since then I've been reading voraciously, both the book and here! So many talented folks here... the DIY section is amazing.
A little about me... I used to manage a book store (bad for a bibliophile with a DIY bent), but left the company to stay home and take care of my sons. Turns out that's the best job ever!
I like to home brew, camp, hike and hunt. I also fly fish, and enjoy not only tying flies, but making my own rods. This summer I just finished my first bamboo rod, which was quite a project. I'm looking forward to making more, but how many rods does one guy need?
We live in central Maine. We always wanted a nice little cabin in the woods, hopefully on water, when we retired. When we moved here from NY, we found a nice little cabin in the woods, on water, with some great neighbors to boot. And we are now 30 years ahead on the retirement plan! Unfortunately for my poor wife, she has a hard time getting me off the water in summer.
I've been wearing my kilt more and more, but I've also grown a bit around the midsection, so it doesn't fit the way it should anymore. So I guess the next project has been decided! I'd also like to make kilts for my boys, but I'll probably wait until they are a bit older.
Anyway, reading through the forums, it's obvious that there are many knowledgable and friendly people here. I'm sure I'll be asking you for help once I get started.

Welcome from the highlands of Central Massachusetts. Former Peaks Island and Portland resident. Sounds like you have a wonderful location. Are the black flies buzzing up your kilt yet?
