Northern Arizona is a good bet because it's nice in the winter and summer, and we have mild weather.

@Carl- I lived for a little while in Bellingham, WA. It was nice, but working in security, I dealt with the dregs of society and it started getting to me. I LOVE Portland. I only visited a couple of times, but it's an awesome city, for sure.

I was goinbg to suggest your moving to Maryland. But our wonderful Governor, Martin O'Malley is jacking up the taxes right and left. With the bad economy, the state has been forced to reduce funding to all branches of the state govt. The only large city, Baltimore, is awash in corruption and has been for years. The Mayorhas reduced city staffing, and continues to tell us that she needs more money to run the city. Bottled drinks are the latest commodity to be hit with an extra tax about the sales tax rate. (5%).

I love this state. I was bortn and raised here. I have never lived anywhere else. But there are laws in the works that could be voted down in the general election if they get on the ballot. If some af these laws are voted down by the people, Maryland will cease being known as "The Free State" and renamed the state of oppression. I may be in the same boat as you if this happens.
Good luck in your search for a new residence. I wish you and your wife well.

Well it looks like it's decided!

I'm going to spend the summer as a river guide in the Adirondacks of NY and (hopefully) go to Green Mountain College for a second bachelor's degree, beginning in the fall. Presuming I "get in" the Adventure Education program, I'll have 2 years for a BS.

It looks like it's coming together very nicely.

Sounds like a plan. Looks like an exciting summer and hope your plans with Green Mountain College comes together as anticipated. Best wishes for a successful outcome with your plans.
