Heading out in a few days (this coming Saturday) to Tartan Day South in Cayce, South Carolina. I had not been to a Highland Games in a few years (my wife and I used to attend the Waxhaw Games over the border into North Carolina but fell off, now looks like it is no more?) so I was very excited to see an event come in direct local area. I will be interesting to see what improvements/additions have been made since last year. As to my experience in 2011 it was very nice, arrived a bit early and immediately saw a couple Guinness tents for those so imbibing (they also had Smithwick and Harps if I remember correctly as well as wine which I don't know anything about.) It was windy as all get-out at the location (former NASCAR speedway) and everything was blowing every which-way. Lots of live music, a good opening ceremony with pipe band (had a representative from the government of Ireland speak which was interesting and in tune with its "Scottish/Irish" combined theme), great Irish dancers (although I hope there is some Scottish dancing this year as well!) Athletics, vendors and some border collie and birds-of-prey exhibitions (forgive me if I missed anything.) No clan tents, so hope there will be some out there this year.
I'll be there, helping out the STM giftshop booth!
Interesting that they focused so much on Ireland for Tartan Day. Go figure...
