It's more of a fabric store tartan as far as I know. Similar to one of the highland regiments except for the darker shade and red instead of yellow.

So does this make for a clean edge or do you fray the edge as well. This seems to be the other solution? I understand that some of the major kiltmakers that are starting to produce kilts in polyvis and other fabrics, are having them custom woven with a selvedge similar to wool for traditional kilts. Also was wondering if you had yet made a kilt out of hemp fabric?

I let it fray a bit on the bottom edge if I don't have a selvage. This time around cost is a major factor. After the medical bills are paid I'll be able to get better fabric.This time my plan is amake a kilt for myself and a jumper (American definition) for my wife out of the same fabric. I intend to make the skirt part of the jumper resemble a kilted shirt so I'll have to make it in 2 pieces. It'll decidedly be my own design. I haven't used hemp fabric at all, probably couldn't affford it for awhile.

I've got a led on some wool/poly at about $15 a yard, don't know if that will help or not. Let me know.

Thanks Richard. Unfortunately if my wife gets within 10 feet of wool she starts to itch, even blends. I passed on a nice wool already because of her allergy since the project I have in mind is a kilt for me and a matching jumper for her.

Well, I just ordered 14 yards of the fabric my wife picked. I'd prefer a little more color but She Who Must Be Obeyed has spoken It's a medium weight polyester/rayon twill so it should work pretty well. It's the one I posted in my gallery. Picture isn't too good but it's similar to some I have already except for the touch of red.
