I saw this tartan and thought to you, it's a new one called the Giant's Causeway,it might fulfill a few of your criteria. I got a smaple and it's a very pleasing tartan, just a thought!

I like that a lot! It's a lovely tartan, and has a very nice connection to my home. I used to go on trips to the giants causeway all the time with my school, or just with the family, so it's something I would really have a connection with.
Thats definitely one for the shortlist!

If you don't do it, I will.
A stranger in my native land.
Kilty as charged.

Of course there is nothing wrong with making an x-kilt out of any fabric , tartan included, but if you are keen to wear a tradtional hand sewn style of kilt then an x-kilt wouldn't be the way .
After looking at some tartan x-kilts on here, I think I'd actually quite like to try and make one. I know they are more contemporary, but I already have traditional kilts so an x-kilt will be the prefect thing for less formal occasions like going to the pub or a match.
I think I'd have to stick with tartan though, as I don't think I'd have the confidence to wear a plaid kilt here!
