Elkommando returns

Got my elkommando in the mail this morning. After using my dividend from REI, I spent $9.97 on it. I have been wearing either traditional tanks or Utilikilts for the last 6 years and was hoping for a lighter weight version of a UK. I wore the Elkommando today working in the yard, fixing doors and unpacking boxes at my new house. It is certainly lightweight and breathes well. I would 100% reccomend this kilt for hiking, but it isn't nearly as flexible as either a UK or traditional kilt. Squatting down to pick up boxes lifted the kilt way too high, and well I consider myself an average size male, the shear thin apron did all it could to show off my anatomy. A sporran of some sort is a must for this baby! All in all it was well worth the 10 bucks I spent, but in the words of my wife "it looks too much like a skirt."

Thanks for this. I think it's going to be this or the Sportkilt for the hiking kilt. Susan (my wife) bought the SK hiking kilt, but I wanted to check the Elkommando in person first before I made the final choice.

Drove, lived, camped and ran in my Elkommado kilts and Stillwater Economy Wool kilt for the past week. Had jeans on only 2 hours of the whole trip. The Elkommado kilts are really a good deal for driving, hiking, running and such. Think you will enjoy them. I do appreciate the cargo pockets. My Stillwater was fantastic also, Ill have a write up about it later this weekend.

Keep in mind that the Elkommando is intended to be worn at low waist when you are measureing. If you get one too small it will ride high and lead to exposure issues. I hang quite low in the heat and have no problem.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, I don't hang so low, regardless of the weather.

I got my dividend and 2nd El K last week. The step down in size from large to medium works well (33" waist in Wranglers.) I've worn the El K for fly fishing and paddling in my fishing kayak. Way comfortable for both. I seldom wear waders, preferring to wade in river sandals. If I get the hem wet it dries in no time. Where I fish the bottom is so rocky and slick I don't wade deep.

Well, I tried it on and liked many things about it but thought it was not right for me. A pal tagged along and it fit him perfectly. So, I'll go for the hiking Sportkilt unless something else comes along.

Like the Sportkilt, the Elkommando will dry quickly and comfortably light. I highly suggest trying it on if at all possible. Oh yeah, it's very well made and the price point is very attractive.

REI has only S and XXL, others on backorder.

Try Moosejaw, I think they have them in stock or an early April delivery. I bought one from them last year, they are reliable.
