Relaxing in the four hundred year old Globe Inn. Note that xmarker Pour1Malt is sitting in the actual chair on which the poet Robert Burns would have sat while he was in The Globe. Burns frequented the Globe during the years 1788 to 1796 when he lived at Ellisland Farm near Dumfries and later lived in the town as an exciseman. He is said to have had a love affair with Anna Park, daughter of the Landlord of the Globe.

Saturday morning Gabrielle and I visited Caerlaverock Castle.
This castle was constructed from 1277 and was an important fortress against invasion from the English across the Solway Firth. After the Union of the Crowns the buildings around the inner courtyard were re-constructed in 1634 as a fine mansion for the Maxwell family, before being sacked by the Covenanters just six years later.

Sweetheart Abbey, near Dumfries.
Sweetheart Abbey was founded in 1273 by Lady Dervorgilla of Galloway in memory of her husband John Balliol who had died five years earlier.
On her death, she was laid to rest next to her husband’s embalmed heart and the Cistertian Monks named their abbey in memory of her.

It looks as if as good a time was had this week as last weekend; I hope everyone enjoyed themselves. The extra hour of daylight makes a huge difference to the photos.
