Graham, I like to wear cotton boxers when it's brisk or at work
Tim, I wear the same, I buy only black these days, it seems the best colour under a kilt.
Maybe I have something to learn but for the life of me I cannot understand how a kilt, especially a heavy, coarse woolen one can be more comfortable rubbing again the 'sensitive parts'than fine cotton underwear.
As far as exposure is concerned, my wife frequently complains about me exposing my underwear when sitting or running, if I didn't wear any it would be all the more embarrassing for others.
If your kilt is rubbing your sensitive parts . You got it on wrong.
The wool in mine isn't so coarse either. So I can go without. However I wear somthing under also in black if there are a lot of children in the vicinity. It's quite refreshing on a summers day.....

86% of sample went regimental /commando
3% wore a thong
6% wore a jock strap
1% wore black panties
3% wore anything that same to hand.

I don't know, it may seem a little weird or even kinky, but I do
sometimes wear a thong when not going regimental. It feels awful
for some reason when wearing pants but when wearing the kilt, it
gives support and coverage of the primary bits while still feeling mostly
regimental. It's a great compromise. Kinda the best of both worlds. Like
I said though, it only feels right under a kilt. It bugs the hell out of me in
pants or shorts. Did I mention it's a soft cotton thong in a green tartan
print?

While I was on my trip to Europe I wore boxer/briefs (like briefs but with legs that fit close instead of loose). I wore them because I had no way of laundering the kilts between wearings and underwear can be washed in the sink and dries overnight.
In fact, on the last couple of days of the trip I went back to going regimental. It's much more comfortable going without.
Black and other dark colors worked well because they covered the bits without announcing their presence.
