I am not a religious person Ryan, but I do understand that it is an important day for many. Can I wish you a very happy special day tomorrow and a happy Easter.

While we're on the subject of traditional style and personal flair, what about a tattersall shirt with a black background? I believe that to be a very traditional pattern for daywear with the kilt, though the more common background colour would be white. Could this be something to look into for a guy who likes dark tones and wants a more traditional look than a solid black shirt?

Traditional in that form? I think not!

    Thanks very, very much, Jock.

Traditional or no, if I could find the right shirt, that would certainly be something I would be interested in giving a try! And something I had never really given thought to before. Thanks for the suggestion!

There I go again, getting confused I guess traditional tattersall is always darker lines on a lighter background then?

    Ryan

I personally think you nailed the look, clearly a collaborative mix of traditional in the vast majority of pieces and contemporary in the use of the black shirt to give it your own flavor. Not a monochrome look but well balanced small subset of colors repeated across the whole outfit.

I personally really love the stingray skin sporran---it however visually causes me to think of something that is not polite forum discussion, something I will never get out of my head unfortunately, and thus have my own personal "bit" that I would personally change for unique reasons.

I think you will look grand for your confirmation. Remember, only a sip of the wine---don't grab the chalice and down the whole thing, and ask for seconds---it is only ceremonial after all. Good luck.

This very informative thread has had a major influence on my dress for the day. It's a tight-rope balance between the occasion - National Tartan Day and the (non) event - hanging out with my brother at the cigar store where he works part-time. The cool weather and my limited arsenal were also factors. No way to take pictures right now (will do that later) but the final ensemble consists of my Scottish National casual kilt with DIY fringed flashes, navy popcorn hose, brown belt (w/ brass buckle), shoes, sporran and strap; light blue Oxford cloth shirt, no tie, and tweed Braemar jacket. I may shed the jacket inside.
Thanks to all who have contributed.
