Jimmy,
I am afraid that I take exception to that comment. As one who has worn traditional kilts from the age of fourteen and who, now at the age of 68, continues to do so, I also embrace the "modern" or contemporary kilts which are doing much to make kilt-wearing so popular. At the same time, I DO know "the first thing about the traditions" and I DO very much care!
My "Kilt Kollection" is growing by roughly one every two months or so - sometimes a good traditional 8 yarder and sometimes something different. Currently, I have eleven traditional tartan kilts and 25 assorted 'modern' kilts, with three more on order - each one being of equal value and importance to me.
To wear 'modern'/contemporary kilts in no way shows disrespect to the traditional kilt, in fact quite the opposite - they compliment them. As has been said so often: kilts are not costumes, they are garments, and as such must be allowed to develop and progress.
Just my fivepennyworth!

Too true, Graham - and very proud of it!

Wow. I'm surprised and a bit honored to get three pages of feedback on this subject. I'm still trying to decide, tho one of Blu's suggestions is definitely in the top. Decisions, decisions.
Thanks, for all the input tho fellas. Hopefully within the next couple of weeks I won't be embarrassed when asked the name of my little company. Not because I'm ashamed of my work, but I've grown to regret the use of the word "cheap".
However, I'm not overly concerned with image as far as making it big in the kilt-making world as this is just a hobby for me. I do this for fun, not for a living. Tho I do stand behind my work. And my "real" job is in a related field, so this does reflect on my carreer.

Not mine either and I usually enjoy puncturing the pompous asses that play that game. I think we're both candidates for Clan MacBubba

By all means, forget everything that I've posted and have fun.
As for "taking exception" to modern kilt wearers... that's not what was implied at all. Jayzus!

Chris,
I like the idea of "Customkilts".
