First of all, Love the MacGregor Tartan I really like the belt and sporran in the bottom photo. Very Cool! 'S rioghal mo dhream

All of the pieces are made from the same piece of elk leather. I prefer a hanger when wearing a kilt belt, and use the sporran belt mainly without the kilt belt.

I prefer the style of braided sporran belt and hangers Sue makes to the plain belts and hangers. Her kilt belts are a three piece affair. An outer layer of elk bonded to another piece of leather with the inner layer being a piece of Velcro. The Velcro keeps the belt from sliding on the kilt (the sporran belt also has the Velcro on the inside.)

Wanting a more casual sporran, I purchased the brown sporran along with kilt belt, sporran belt, and hanger last year. Like the first, it's made from one piece of elk. I bought one of Tyger's buckles for the belt from Matt at the museum.

Currently, I do not attend black tie affairs. If that changes, I will look for an appropriate sporran.

I agree with Richard's comment, that is a nice looking sporran with a 19th-century look to it - I used to own an L&M muskrat full-mask sporran, as well as an L&M bespoke horsehair sporran with the same 'Prince Charlie' style cantle - both have since been sold off and replaced with more bespoke, Kate Macpherson full-mask sporrans...as well as a bespoke goat hair sporran with an Ian Grant silver cantle, that I shall be commissioning Kate, shortly. Well done Highland Logan! L&M makes great stuff, and it appears they are located very close to you in Nova Scotia!

It's interesting to see the vast amount of difference between full-mask sporrans made of North American animals, versus full-mask sporrans made in Scotland with native species there. For instance, the L&M badger is so much larger and has a lot more hair than their Scottish counterparts. It is very interesting to see the differences.

    Cheers,

Thanks, that was the plan. I got to work with Joe at L&M to have it made just right. I showed him some mock-up's of how I thought it should look based on some of the old adverts and it turned out great. I still have the layout drawings made from their leather jigs.

    Cheers,
If I have time tonight I'll post up some pictures of the inside of the L&M shop floor I took while I was there. They are about a 10 minute drive from both my home and work, so I was able to stop in and help with the design process during my lunch breaks.

Ordered it last night, it shipped today, and will probably be here Monday. I love the design not just for the capacity but the way it allows you to organize things. And the way the zippers go so far down on the sides of the main compartment allow you instant access to that which can't be discussed under rule 11 (but is relevant to my line of work) with just a single quick jerk on the front of the sporran.
Dale, Donnie at Wyvern Leather made this sporran for me for the same reason (rule 11). He did a very nice job and it works quite well. More photos available, but not here if you are interested.

Here's some pics of my Rob Roy style sporran made by Richard Watling available from Redshank Designers and Kiltmakers in Inveraray (www.redshankkilts.co.uk). Materials used are black leather, brass, bone and wood. Awesome craftsmanship.

I can't get to the "full mask" level though. Sorry!! I really couldn't wear one even if it was given to me...
OK well, if someone should happen to give one to you you may give it to ME! ;-)
