Having a spot of bother getting here.

I'm finding it difficult to get here from all search engines (Google UK, Yahoo UK, Bing etc. ) When typing in any search string that leads directly to an XMarks limk and then clicking on that link I'm redirected to
    w w w (dot) url123.info - see below.

and I'm then offered a plethora of pop-ups with once in a lifetime opportunities.

I've tried it on 3 different machines (1 x XP, 2 x Win7) with the same result and it's happening in Firefox AND IExplorer so it is unlikely it's me that's infected. (mibbies)

I've eventually got into the site by using a Google search to find a specific thread topic and got in through the back door as it were... Any Xmarksthescot direct link seems to be a non starter... Anyone else having the same pop-ups and redirection?

It's a trifle annoying but I'd like to know if it's JUST me so I can do further investigations at my end. Dread to think the XMarks site has been hacked.

Thought you might like to know.

    Yep

Me too John. Started yesterday in the Bay Area, on one computer, continues on today at home with a completely different computer. I emailed Steve as well. Not sure what the problem or solution is, but makes me want to strangle the annoying, thieving bast$#%s who do this stuff .

Odd indeed. I don't normally use Google (I like DuckDuckGo, which utilizes Googles engine but blocks google from tracking your information).

When I use DuckDuck I go right to XMarks. When I use Google, I get hijacked to some crap-tastical pop-up-ridden ad-spam that tells me I've "won" something.

    "crap-tastical pop-up-ridden ad-spam" .... hehehehe. Now that's my kind of English! Why didn't I think of that?

OK folks, Rob and I are on this.

Sorry about not responding to emails. Monday is my weekend and I've been working around the house and have not checked emails at the shop today.

Had another thread started by a member about this yesterday. For the last 3 days, when I try to go to XMarks from my favourites list I also get the "crap-tastical pop-up-ridden ad-spam that tells me I've "won" something pops" (fantastic Artificer)
I am running XP and use Google for my search engine. I don't think you are alone EB

My direct bookmark seems to work, but search engine results with Google match those described by others.

What are you using for a search term on Google? The entire site name, xmarksthescot.com, or something else. When you are using search engines, you are not interacting with the XMarks site at all. There are a number of possibilities, including browser hijacks on your PC, problems with Google, etc.. Let me know what terms you are using to search, and I will try to see what is going on, but it will be difficult, as I am not able to create the issue.

FWIW I access the site via my favourites list. I use XP and am not having any problems.

edit update, out of interest I just tried to access the site via Google inputting Xmarks the scot and selected from the drop down options and got the same crap-tastical pop-up-ridden ad-spam that tells me I've "won" something pops.

Also I had to shut down all running open pages and restart my search engine to come back here.

I also use URL history to get here with no problems. I tried Google, chose xmarksthescot from the drop down options, and got the spam site. Didn't restart browser, just closed all the pop-ups. now when I go to Google and chose from drop down I come straight to the real XMarks with no issues, but that might be a function of my antivirus software having somehow "learned" to avoid the problem -- who knows.

I don't understand why people use a search engine to come to a site that they use all the time. . . but different horses etc. and it's what Bob does so I can't be too critical LOL
