I can say that he wasn't likely in the Victoria Rifles of Canada, as my grandfather was in it, and it was never a kilted Scottish regiment.
I'll see what else I can find.

I agree . The first thing that popped out at me was the sporran badge , it seems that is the one item that may be identifiable from the picture .
Tried the magnifying glass and it did help but couldn't make a positive ID . There's probably someone out there that is familiar enough with regimental badges that might be able to indentify it just from the general shape and its time period and the info provided .
