Somewhere I have a pair of brass ones from Thomas Pink. I got them in the late 70s when I was still in the RAF. There was an advert in a magazine and I replied. All it cost me was a stamp.
They arrived in their own little cardboard box. Stamped with "Thomas Pink of Jermyn Street" on one side and my name engraved on the other.
The curious thing was that they also had an "L" on one and an "R" on the other.

Chas

Thanks, Jock and Chas. I hadn't heard of the brass ones.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Some shirts are made with a heavy interfacing in the collar which eliminates the need for stays.

Hi piperdbh, hope you're doing ok. I think I've seen those type of shirt collars. Thanks for bringing them up.

Can't resist, saw these in a marketing e-mail the other day and thought of this thread:
"The gents at Exuvius have taken the need for metal collar stays to the next level, by injecting genius functionality into the product. A built-in bottle opener keeps the party flowing smoothly while opposing flat phillips and slot-tipped screwdrivers can tighten even the loosest screw. Useful people are winners; so be a hero, save the day, and make sure that this titanium laser-cut collar stay is the only tool in your shirt."

Has anyone tried brass or silver collar stays and airport security together?

That's a good question, Chas, in light of the collar stay tool kit.
