I became a regular patron of Tom's Café some six years ago, having been introduced to it as it being almost an exclusive haunt of kilt-wearers. Whilst there, I made many good friends, a lot of whom went out of their way to welcome me and to royally entertain me whilst on my "USA Tour '04" last June/July. I still have my own table in the Café (the one in the corner near the potted Palm). Tom himself, although quite seriously unwell, was exceptionally kind and generous to Dave W and me whilst on the Washington DC leg of our Tour - he is a gem of a gentleman.
As a result, I cannot bring myself to abandon Tom's Café altogether, although I feel extremely saddened at the way in which the clientele has changed in the past year or so. I still pop in there from time to time - but not with any regularity - and, if I do not care for the 'atmosphere', I come out again as speedily as I went in!
