Hello all!

I'm still here although I lurk more often than post these days. Now its summer more people are seeing me in my kilts - you never know, some of them might even be inspired to wear one!

Time is my issue - I can fit in the odd moment to 'lurk', but posting takes much longer (at least it does for me because I like to think clearly about what I'm going to write first as the meaning behind the written word can so easily be misunderstood).

I'm now wearing my kilts much more often. I wear them to church services and functions. I was a bit wary about wearing them to services at first. I needn't have worried, the only comments I've had have been approving (or jovial). I'm yet to wear my kilt in to the city of Peterborough, but I feel this coming on very soon. The only place I don't feel comfortable wearing a kilt is work. I've not asked people how they would react - maybe I should?

I have to say that I do get "looked at" in my kilt. I guess its inevitable as guys in kilts are not a common occurrence around here (I'm probably the only one!). I'm not the sort of person who really enjoys that. It would be ok if they came up to me and said what they thought, but that's too much to ask of the reserved Brits! You just never know what they're thinking. However, I won't let it stop me wearing a garment that I find very comfortable and I think looks really good.

Thanks to you all for your contributions to this site. Although I don't post much these days, I do enjoy reading your contributions and have found some of great use (especially finding different kilt makers etc).

I to started out by wearing my kilt to church.A Safe place to start.It's kind of confidence building.

As regards to your work:
I can't for reasons of health and safety wear the kilt at work. (A Factory)

I talked about going to Scotland and that I was going to buy a kilt.So I sewed the seed in their heads.The next thing I did was a dinner dance at work in full dress.Followed by, a few weeks later by Pizza and beer with some mates from work.After which I went to the cinema to see "Troy."

It's just small step's It just gets better and better.

I'll step out from behind the foliage briefly . . . I've been a lurker for quite some time, originally at Tom's Cafe, then on the Braveheat's Forum as well as here when Hank started it. I thoroughly enjoy the conversations . . . but like David, I find most days I do well to read the posts. Also, when I do respond on forums, I like to have well-thought-out responses, which also takes additional time. I appreciate the wisdom and investment of time that many of you make!! It is of great encouragement to the rest of us!

I started kilting about three years ago or so -- I'm involved in a Scottish Country Dance group and got the kilt for that. As many of you have attested, it does become habit-forming (but I can stop at any time, really I can). The original kilt is a 22 oz. military surplus Black Watch kilt from "What Price Glory". (By the way, Jerry does provide great service -- whatpriceglory.com) At that time, there wasn't the availability of the well-made kilts in the lower price ranges that there is today from many of the brethren who post here, so it was the best deal I could find at the time. Since I live in North Texas, it does get hot in the summer!! (Richard, I've been intending to contact you to see whether we can get a group started in the area . . . in my spare time . . .)

Over the last year or so, I've worn the kilt to work on "casual Fridays" on occasion, and a few other days as well -- as many of you have commented, after the first time or two, the folks around me rarely comment anymore. The frequency will increase as I acquire some more . . . it's kind of boring to only have one tartan. I've recently acquired one of Chris' (formerly CheapKilts) poly / viscose models -- it's well made and definitely more comfortable than 22 oz. wool!! Others are under review (really, I can quit at any time . . .).

Well, that's at least a start . . . thanks to all of you who make this such an interesting forum.

Good to have you aboard and yes it's a job to keep up.
I've been wearing a kilt for 6 months and have gone from someone who only cared if his a**e was covered, to someone who looks at clothes to see if they'll go with his kilts...!
Try to post when you can I'll look forward to your thoughts.
