I have yet to see such a collar that was any good. I wouldn't wear any of the ones I've seen!

In the Marine Corps we had a spring loaded, one piece collar stay that stuck into the bottom of the collar points and were connected under the tie with an arching wire to make it stick out. It was shaped like a capital M with points at the bottom of the M that stuck into the collar. It was a really cool collar stay, but I haven't seen them in years unless this is one: http://www.grunt.com/2-piece-metal-collar-stays .

Now days I only see those L-shaped, two piece stick in things that I never liked.

Hmmm, I guess several of my shirts have built in stays that can't be removed.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

You should take them out and burn them immediately. We will wait until you come back.

    still waiting.

I suppose it might be ok for you to have such shirts, as long as you don't wear them while you are posting- or store them in the same closets with clothing you might wear while posting.

Since the rest of us need to retain a policy of plausible deniability, please do not mention those shirts ever again. ever. ever.

I wear ones similar to the mentioned from the USMC each time I put on my uniform. I haven't seen the old 'M' looking ones since my Dad retired. Like to find some thought. Mine look like an 'L' with a spring-like curl in them. You can still get these from any military supply or base.

    Check the site I listed: http://www.grunt.com/2-piece-metal-collar-stays .

    I think it's the same.

I use silver collar stays from Brooks Brothers. They have always worked great for me and are a good length.

    Cheers,

The ones I mentioned can be had at Sgt Grit, the site I listed, and they work really cool with a tie. It kind of pushed the knot up and out, especially if you have one of those really narrow wool ties like I was issued in 1971. We only tied a fore-in-hand knot, and it poked out, creating a little arch of the tie above the top blouse button. The spring keeps the collar very straight and sharp.

In civilian attire, you often see men who stuffed their ties into the jacket and then it gets pulled down, revealing the collar button and leaving you looking like a goober.
