    Just a follow-up for those who find this thread while thinking about making a kilt out of denim: Having started kilt #2 in 16oz. wool all I can say is: If you can possibly afford PV or wool for your first kilt, get it. It's so much nicer to work with on so many levels. It's got some give which is a huge help in lining up and stitching pleats, and it's so much easier to stitch through. And of course, it's much easier to keep pleats straight and even.

    As for kilt #1, in addition to the narrow apron, I was either too stingy with my hip measurement or got measurably fatter since I started it last December. I got some good analysis in this thread.
