    Extra long sporran belt...

There's a new cider available in stores here and the publicity poster is a shot of someone wearing a kilt in a casual style. Of course, a lot of thing aren't right, but he wears an extra long sporran belt. At first, I didn't like it, but now, it's kinda growing on me. It kinda looks between Gonzo Kilting and Casual Kilting.

What do you guys think ? ? ?

I can't advise you on if its acceptable or not, however i digg it. It's a nice asymmetrical little pop that adds a little something. If your worried about running into someone who is upset with you because its "wrong" you can just tell them you just dropped a few stones.

I have seen that style of belt before. More often than not it is knotted in the small of the back. I don't mind it being tied on the front right hip - that is exactly where I buckle mine. All this being said, his belt is just too long. Cut off six to eight inches and no one would have noticed. As it is, it looks like any old belt he has managed to grab from somewhere - probably from a horse.

    Regards

It looks like someone trying to use a medieval sword belt (which is frequently looped like that) as a sporran strap. I could MAYBE see it at a Ren-Faire or with a contemporary kilt worn to a concert, but not for normal wear with a traditional kilt.

I think the point was to have people notice the belt! Whether it is a true fashion statement or an advertising gimmick, if it isn't noticed, it didn't work.

I suppose for the vast majority of the non-kilted world, you'd be hard pressed to find someone who noticed. For me, as a kilt wearer, I'll pass. There's nothing wrong with it I suppose, but personally I'd take issue having a length of leather swinging around. Let the kilt do the swishing!
