    Too small I'd agree. an earasaid, possiblly but look back throught the thread and pick up the clue.

    Trying to nail down the tartan , but perhaps the use is a battle flag / battle banner , given the size , the sewn edge and the size suggests a banner on the field .

    Interesting idea but there is no historical precedence for a tartan flag and certainly not one that size. I don't follow the logic of your conclusion about the sewn edge.

    There's still something everyone's missing here. Look again at the dimensions.

    Ok, Ok, this is going no-where fast.

    What we know so far 27" wide per single piece joined to give 54" x 3 yards x 2. That's 2 pieces 54" x 9'! At no point did I say that the 2 were joined. So what do we have?
