Thanks all, I've had my measurements re-done and came out with 25". I'm a bit more torso than leg, so it sounds about right from what the rabble has said - measure twice, cut once! Feeling a lot happier.

I put a belt around me at the point I want the top of the Kilt to be. I then kneel on the floor and keeping myself as straight as possible I set the end of the yardstick on the floor. I then Image a line parallel to the floor crossing the yardstick at the height of the belt. I then mark with my hand where the top of the belt lines up with the yardstick. I do not look at the yardstick till after I mark it with my hand. The key is to keep yourself and the yardstick perpendicular to the floor and parallel to each other. Good posture counts in this case. Do not angle the yard stick towards you. You can also us this method in front of a mirror and read the yard stick. I cannot take credit for this method but I’m not sure where the idea came from. I may have even read about it on XMARKSTHESCOT in the past but it works for me.
If I did that my kilts would be too long. My kilts don't touch the floor if/when I kneel.
