Kilted With Doc Holliday and Kid Curry
Maggie, my darling wife of almost 22 years, finished a semester in college and we decided to take off on a short celebration trip. We quickly packed some bags, put one of our dogs, Shimmer, in the back seat (NOT on the roof), and set off to an area that we had not yet explored. After a beautiful 5 hour drive we were in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.
The next morning I strapped on my Firefighters Memorial by USA Kilts and headed off to explore the pioneer cemetery. We found that there were more than a few native Scots buried in this cemetery. However, this is the first grave that we stopped at.
For those of you who do not recognize the name, you may recognize him by the name of the saloon next door to where he actually died.
If you are like my 22 year old neice and still confused as to his identity, lets just say that he was a gambler and gunfighter who pal'd around with Wyatt Earp and was involved in the Gunfight at the OK Corral.
The next grave was that of a true desperado who rode with both Black Jack Ketchum as well as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
That afternoon we headed off into the countryside with Mount Sopris in view.
We came across this cattle drive taking up most of the road. If you look closely at the bottom center you can see that the Border Collies were actually doing the majority of the work for the cowboys.
The next morning we decided on a round of golf. The course literature said nothing about a Kilts being prohibited, so I strapped on my Modern Johnston casual by Locharron. On the second hole I celebrated hitting my first birdie.
Of course maggie then got a hole in 1!
At the end of a long and difficult round Maggie was a respectable 14 over par. As a gentleman I decline to reveal my score.
That night we had the obligatory tasting. Of course, the true Scots beverage won.
The next morning we headed home over Independence Pass, where it is still winter. Luckily I was wearing my MacDuff Ancient Hunting by Kathy Lare and had my wonder dog Shimmer beside me.

Good memory. The Doc Holliday Tavern is right next door to where the hotel used to be. I have a photo of the hotel and will post it for you as soon as I can access it.
