I get a horrified look on my face and say, "Bagpipes? They sound like squishing a bag of cats in a vice!"

I hope you're not serious!! I love the pipes, no finer sound to stir the heart!

It's the practice chanter I have a problem with, it's the devils' instrument!!

David, I live on 25 acres of forest, no one can hear me (not that a chanter is loud - it's not).

    My neighbors are safe.

    A true Scottish Gentleman...

The old saying I usually quote to the folks who ask if I am a piper when they see me in my kilt is:

The definition of a true Scottish gentleman is one who knows how to play the pipes...and dosen't!

Since the only exposure that most folks get to kilts & tartan is through a piper on the tele or at some sort of service, I usually try to be tolerant of these types -- at least they know you're Scottish!

    Cheers,

    T.
