This may be the wrong forum (please move it if it is), but I'd like to ask the rabble (particularly U.S. members) how often and where do you wear your kilt?
I'm in Canada ... I've been wearing my kilts any time I go out somewhere for the past 6 months.
I even made it through the winter ... although there are some days I'll be wearing a pair of long john's underneath next winter - regardless of what some traditionalists may say!

I should think that any traditionalist equiped with even half an ounce of grey matter, faced with the temperatures that you chaps endure in the winter would have no qualms in finding the warmest solution available.

Of course, "Soy Gringo" but I wore nothing but kilts for a week on the Riviera Maya south of Cancun.
Only "hassle" I got was guys shouting, "Hey William Wallace!" then encouraging me to come to their shop and buy something.

At least weekly. Casual Friday is now kilt Friday. Occasionally on weekends and becoming more often.
Money is flat and meant to be piled up.

I split my time half and half between work and home (I work away). When I'm at work, I look like this...

So Kilts are out of the question therefore I'm limited to home time only.
I'm not obsessed with my Kilts (herm-hem... my wife may disagree) and I do have other options in my wardrobe at home but I am in a Kilt most days and wear it when out and about to dinner (posh or informal... I have an assortment of gear), down the pub, bimblin' round the shops, walking in the wilds and generally anywhere. I've documented loads of these ordinary days and extra ordinary occasions here too, mainly because I like the picture threads submitted by others.
I've had few negatives since I took up frequent Kilting, some amusing, some not so... I live in the North West of England so the initial response was "What's wit' Kilt? Thaaz in Lancashire norrin [expletive deleted] Lanarkshire?"
I've also had a bit of the snide. Some English folk are quite uneasy around a Bloke in a Kilt and they can often be quite offensive in the defensive. I've also encountered possessive Scots who feel an Englishman in a Kilt is an abomination. We never seem to get to the part about my Scottish blood and heritage before the ranting starts. That doesn't seem to matter, my accent says it all apparently.
I've not yet come to blows over any of these altercations although it has been close once or twice and I'd be more than happy to oblige although I suspect my body language might convey that message which allows them to retreat.
In the main people love it and find it fascinating that I don't give a monkey's cuss about negative opinion and that I'm not discouraged and just get on with doing what I do. I'm more often than not asked why I'm NOT in a Kilt when I am seen out in Troozerz! I have a mate, also English (proper English, no Scots at all) who would love to get a Kilt on but has admitted he'd be unable to leave the house for fear of 'what people might say'. My other mate Doublewood Dave (who is also English-English) has also taken to the Kilt and wears it almost as often as I do (as seen in various picture threads on here). A few years ago when I worked in Scotland I managed to persuade four or five Scots work collegues to get into the Kilt. If it's good enough for me it should be good enough for them. Perhaps I just shamed them into it.
I also find that most "Kilt experts" I encounter, don't actually own or wear a Kilt, but that is by the by...
Quick positive to close.
I was in a garage filling up with fuel the other day, wearing jeans, and the lady cashier asked
"Are you the Bloke who wears a Kilt all the time?"
"I am" I replied smiling (you never know whether it's going to be a good one or a bad one)
"I've seen you about" she said "No kilt today?".
"No, not today."
"That's a shame..." She said, handing me my receipt.
"Maybe next time." I offered back, still smiling.
"That would be nice. I'll look forward to it."
I didn't know her from Adam. Clearly she knows me.

I have only worn troozers 3 times in that last 18 months and that was due to gale force wind and horizontal rain. I have only had comments of the type, "what is your tartan", "very smart and I love a man in a kilt" usually from the ladies. Once from a guy as I was coming out of a shop in Thurso, he said "very dashing" and gave me a thumbs up.
I must add that I am retired but if I was still working, I would have had to wear a suite.
Chris.

Maybe if you wear a Homburg and carry a violin case, they will steer clear!
