    The Great Lies of SCD

Except for exhibition and display dances, the Scottish Country Dancing season has come to an end. This was my first year doing SCD and I thought that I would share this picture with you all.

All those who have done Scottish Country Dancing will know that it is all about. Suffice to say that I have found this to be SO TRUE!

    Regards

    Chas

As it happens I have just come back from an informal demo session of SCD (held as part of local Jubilee celebrations that currently dominate our lives here) in which we invited spectators to join in. It is certainly not the case that the music will tell you what to do - that's only true for very experienced dancers (and not always even then) and only for the finer points of phrasing - so a good deal of guidance was needed. Because this guidance was offered and received in a very friendly way - lots of laughs - we all seemed to enjoy the dancing. And that is as it should be with a social dance form like this. Yes there is a lot to learn - and remember! But if you approach it in the spirit of doing it for sheer enjoyment rather than trying to pass an exam (real or imagined) (a) you'll learn faster & (b) you'll have more fun.
