    Need help with bonnet colors...

Well, I'm finally getting my kit to the point where I turn my attention to prospect of a bonnet or two from Dunadd, and am seeking some input on the colors to choose that would provide me with the most "bang for my buck."

I have three Maxwell kilts (top to bottom: Modern, Ancient and Hunting) and am wondering if there's a color that might work with all three.

I'm pretty sure bottle green would work for the Modern and Ancient, but I'm not so sure about the Hunting... (Note the bottle green hose below that don't quite work with the Hunting tartan)

Also, I tend to wear either a charcoal or lovat green jacket/waistcoat with the Maxwell tartans:

I also have a MacDougall Ancient and a Smith Ancient, which I wear with a lovat blue jacket/waistcoat:

Perhaps the Saxe blue for the MacDougall and Smith? (Hard to say as I've not seen this color in person...).

I'd welcome your suggestions and input.

    Thanks,

    SM

I have to be honest here, I really do think you are in danger of overthinking all this. Almost any form of green would do and personally "fawn" gets my vote. Dark blue could be another good option.

    Shaun,

Since you may be ordering two bonnets, I would go with a plain fawn Balmoral and a plain navy blue Balmoral - both with matching toories. The decision is yours, mate!

    Best of luck,

Pick any colour that you like , be it fawn or green, or blue or black and wear it, as Jock says you are probably thinking too hard about it, don't worry too much about matching just wear whatever bonnet you get with confidence!

Another *** to Jock's advice. I think the trick here is going to be not trying to match every single tartan you have. Forget about that, and go with a colour that doesn't need to match all those tartans.

My one and only Balmoral is "fawn", though mine is not a rather inexpensive one purchased through Glengarryhats.com . The official colour they call it is "desert tan". But I'm also really liking the looks of their "Canadian khaki" as well. If I absolutely had to pick another colour besides tan/fawn/khaki, I'd likely go with a light blue or royal blue. Mainly just because it's a good traditional colour for a bonnet. Lovat green or Lovat blue also tend to be neutral, and should go with anything. I'm personally not a fan of dark ones, like black or navy blue.

Not very helpful, I know. I guess my point is to go neutral and stop being so fussy.

One more vote for fawn. It's a neutral and complementary (as opposed to matching). And then blue is the historical choice whether it goes with the outfit or not, so there's that option, too.

I'm personally not a fan of the "fawn" color that most here fawn over.

My balmoral is in "Cameronian Rifle Green" with a black torrie, ribbons, and band. I bought the bonnet here (the only folks I've seen who carry that color scheme):

It would go well with your tartans....

Dunadd can do this color. I have one like this as well as a diced one. Chris did the diced one for me. Both are shown below.

I have to agree, this color would go well with all of his kilts.

I think Lovat Green with the Ancient tartan, and I agree with Woodsheal the Cameronian would go well with all, and yes I can supply it, along with almost any colour under the rainbow
