Graham, If you mean that wearing a kilt to work may be challenging because your job might come into risk... then I would say that for some jobs, that may be the case.
However, if you are talking about being embarassed with people's reactions to the kilt I would say that your work environment should be one of the least troublesome. As you said, these are the people you work with day to day. People you know, who know you. In the work environment you can explain why you are wearing the kilt to anyone who doesn't understand.
If there are adverse reactions in different cities and villages, yes, you can just brush them off. On the other hand, you can't stop and explain the kilt quite as easily.
Personally I don't find any situation challenging in a kilt. I firmly believe the old saying quoted in So You're Going to Wear the Kilt I have quoted it before and I will quote it again. "If you can imagine any circumstances in which you would be embarassed to wear the kilt, then you should not wear the kilt under any circumstances."

Heh. Wearing your Kilt to the office has advantages. I've wore mine to my engineering office in the past. Recently, they needed someone in our office to go to Scotland for a meeting. They immediately asked me to go, saying, well, you already have a kilt....
So I'll be in Glascow two weekends from now.

I can't wear a kilt while working because of health and saftey rules
However back and forth to work is no problem. However at the moment I cycle the 36 Km's round trip to work on my bike So I don't use a kilt for this either. Otherwise There isn't a place I wouldn't wear mine. Except maybe up ladders and hopping on a Trampoline.

KiltedHuntsman, wow that's great, I have a kilt too, can I come with you?
Alaskan, I agree with what " So You're Going to Wear the Kilt" says on the matter, how could I argue with such an esteemed work?
