Kilts with short socks? How many people wear this way?
It is my curiosity to know as much as possible so going on the subject how many people wear the short socks with their kilts as a non formal attire? Kilt would either be utility type (x-kilt with knife pleats) or a PV in what appears to be a blue Wallace?!

Scrunched down hose with boots is one thing, but short socks - like wearing socks and sandals! Not for me.

I usually wear it with high top basketball shoes or chucks, and wearing ankle socks. I think it looks fine.

In mid summer with the temps in the 90's I have worn my PV with sandals - sock less - but I've never worn short socks. Frankly I think it would look pretty odd.

There are two pictured on the right, post 6 of this thread. Combined with the too-long kilts they look pretty much like what I expect they are -- guys who have no clue about kilt-wearing and just have it on for the day/for a laugh/whatever.
I'm with Chas on this one, scrunched hose and boots pass muster. Sandals (see Riverkilt, for example) can work. Derek pulls off the Chucks-and-hose look with great regularity.
But I think balance and proportion are key, and to my eye thin short little socks just don't work.

Ok so my feeling of "this just doesn't look/feel right" is correct when I go to wear tenny's and ankle socks it makes me feel wrong which is why I asked in the first place, I wear calf length socks with boots anyways but don't usually wear then with my tenny's although the Chuck Taylors look pretty good with the kilt the guy is wearing in the pixar post.

Summer casual for me is kilt, tshirt, and sandals. No socks. If it's cold enough for socks, it's kilt hose or something comparable.

I think between Chas and Flyrod you have it down
I wear
Kilt hose properly pulled up most of the time
Hiking boots with scrunched down socks for a nice casual look occasionally
But in Summer heat I don't bother with socks at all!

I'm just not a fan of regular length socks and kilts
On some people it works, but not me
