I get almost tears welling up in my eyes when I hear the anthem. I also get that way when i hear Lee Greenwoods, Proud to be an American and the Marines Hymn that is from Boot Camp in the US Marine Corps, those tunes were drilled into our heads and was played at graduation. I always seem to drift away and think of all the people i know and the people that came before me that fought for my country, and my way of life.

Don't be to hard on all the folks that don't sing, might be some good reason for not (memories of friends lost defending, to much respect for the song and knowing their voice limts, or just thinking quitely about what the song really means) the reason might not be disrespect, that's all I'm saying. If it's your thing to sing have at it good voice or bad.

I have to agree with Fudd, I have too much respect for my national anthem to try and subject it to my poor singing voice. I would rather think of what it means to me, rather than destroy the experience for those within ear shot of me.

I always thought America the Beautiful would be a better choice for the National Anthem. Anyone can sing it decently without special voice training or getting a rupture.

Actually I always thought "God Bless America" or "My Country 'Tis of Thee" would have made better anthems.

I don't know many non-professional singers who can sing the Star Spangled Banner worth a hoot. I'd rather have a song that any ordinary Joe can sing without frightening the dogs.

I don't know of that many professional singers that can sing it worth much.

    Agreed!!!

I started to say something like that but decided not to sound like I was knocking any one.

Interesting note on that, there is a large movment to lower the Key of the US national Anthem 3 steps as to allow them to sing the higher notes in a more normal voice. Personaly I don't understand whay if a musican can't sing it in the written key why they don't lower it, and save some embaresment.

There's interpretation and then there's INTERPRETATION. Example Diana Krall and Micheal Franks both sing a fine rendition of Popsicle Toes. But then I've never heard anyone say they liked Roseanne Barr's example of our National Anthem was even fare. :-o

AK Celt I'm not slamming your spelling lord knows I ask my daughter how to spell if I don't have spell check. It's just cooworker brought to mind the coo-coo pigon sisters from the Odd Couple.
