Kilt shop in the London, GB area

My wife and I are traveling to the London, GB area for holiday and business (her business). While she is at work, I thought I'd sneek away, find a nice kilt shop, pick up a few things and then head to the pub until she is off work.

Can anyone suggest a kilt shop in the London area?

I'm in London and have to report there is very little in the way of kilt shops, there is one opposite the British Museum, but to be honest it's not up to much, and they only have a small shop with lots of scarves and the like and they are geared more to the souvenir market, they have a second shop on Porotbello Road as well, but I was in it a few months ago, and there wasn't a kilt to be seen, and although the shop was empty , I wasn't even greeted by the assitant who was too busy reading a magazine... I'll have a think of other places as well and let you know

Paul, I think you are being rather kind there!

Since Scotch Corner in Knightsbridge and Lochcarron Saville Row closed, there's mainly tat.

I agree, I visit London quite regularly and sadly there is nothing to report. Although there is an excellent kiltmaker in Kingston upon Thames.

in south wales we have a kiltmaker trained in Moray, Made both mine , roughly £300 give or take. Very good 3hours drive from London

Two years ago I had exactly the same experience, but in the shop opposite British Museum. They had 20-30 kilts in different sizes and tartans by then, and I tried on two or three which I found by myself. The shop assistant was of absolutely no help. From his corner he just said - when asked - that if I would like to buy a kilt I should be measured (and probably not by him, because he remained seated). I told him that I knew my measures, I just had problems finding a kilt my size, but should like to buy a kilt. He shrug his shoulders and told me again I had to me measured for a kilt. After which he went on reading. No wonder that some vendors go bankrupt.

I've seen good quality vintage kilts in Hornet's of Kensington http://hornetskensington.co.uk/ but it just depends on what they have in (if anything). They are always helpful and have a good range of tweeds, bespoke suits, smoking jackets, wax jackets etc so it is always worth a look. There are also a few good pubs in the area so even if you don't find something then your trip wouldn't be entirely wasted!
