Two former soldiers design new tartan fit for heroes

    Nice pic of Kilt....

    From the Daily Record

TWO former army tailors have designed a tartan fit for heroes.

Ex-soldiers George Neil and Billy McGregor created the Help For Heroes plaid to raise cash for the charity after going into business together.
    new tartan, help for heroes

Former Royal Highland Fusilier George, 44, from Pollok, Glasgow, said: “Because both of us have lost comrades and had first-hand experience of friends being hurt, we were determined to do something to support Help For Heroes as it’s such a fantastic charity.

“We came up with the idea of designing a special tartan and two years on, we’re now seeing it made up for the first time.

“It’s amazing to think that people will soon be wearing it at weddings and functions, and every time they do, servicemen and women will be helped.”

Billy, 44, from Dundee, said: “We chose colours to represent the three services – royal blue for the navy, red for the army and light blue for the air force.”

It is available through George and Billy’s Edinburgh shop GB Tailoring. Kilt hire supplier ACS Clothing have also teamed up with retailers to ensure a £4 donation will go to Help For Heroes every time a customer hires an outfit.

Now that is a kilt I'd happily splash out on if I had the money to spare!

I was all prepared to hate it when I first read the article, but it quickly grew on me. I agree with Martin - I would wear this.

I proudly wear the H4H tie and a H4H wrist band---------- oh and H4H underpants, but I am afraid there is only one tartan for me. I wish them well though.

It's a rather handsome tartan. Given some of the more recent designs that I've seen, I'm quite impressed with it - and it certainly supports a worthy cause.

I have to say, though, that if "red is for the army" -- they really got a short shift next to the navy and air force. ;)

Ah yes, but we don't need to shout it from the roof tops. Too many snipers.

An excellent idea and one that I'd toyed with myself but I'm not sure about the design per se. I'd have been more inclined to used the Government sett as the basis and simply changed the colours in various places to reflect the H4H colour scheme.
