Just finished Agent Zigzag by Ben MacIntyre. An excellent and facinating read about Britain's most successful double agent and the only Brit ever to be awarded the Iron Cross.

Not true. There was an officer in the RA in the early 1900s who had one too. In fact he was one of the VERY few (only?) people to be awarded the Victoria Cross AND the Iron Cross.

His name was William George Nicholas Manley and he WAS the only person to be awarded both medals:-

Just finished a reread of Last Call, by Tim Powers

Yay! A Powers fan. I just did a major reread of his work, in no particular order. I think, aside from "The Anubis Gates," my favourite of his is "Declare." Currently into "Hide Me Among the Graves" but it ain't blowin' my kilt up if you know what I mean.

And not being one to read just one book at a time, the other books on my currently-being-read list are: "Lurulu" by Jack Vance, "Village Horse Doctor West of the Pecos" by Ben Green, "Deschooling Society" by Ivan Illich, and "Condensed Introduction to Tesla Transformers" by Eric Dollard.

Having finished the published books in the series A Song of Ice and Fire, I am now moving on to the Dune series. I think I may have read the first couple of books about 20 years ago, but I'm told they're worth reading again, and finishing the series in its entirety. Some say these are the best sci-fi/fantasy books ever written. We'll see. I started the first book last night.

I've realized having three tons (yes, we measured them, via a truck scale run by the state) of paperbacks makes finding a specific book rather difficult. One of these days (when I win the lottery or so), I will be building a proper library and actually sort through all the books and shelve them via a system [Dewey for the non-fiction, by author then series (order of series)]

So, while I look for Dune Messiah, I've grabbed The Dreamers series by David and Leigh Eddings

Two on the go at the moment: "Flashman and the Tiger" by George Macdonald Fraser, and "A Dog's Purpose" by W Bruce Cameron. If you have not read the Flashman series, you should Flashy is Fraser's capture of the caddish bully of Tom Brown's Schooldays at Rugby in his grownup persona as the Victorian hero and scoundrel. There are a dozen in the series and you should really start at the beginning with "Flashman".

Highland Warrior: Alasdair MacColla and the Civil Wars by David Stevenson, just started but it's pretty interesting so far.
