    Strangely enough last week I got an enquiry for a kilt in this , and got a sample of the cloth today,

    The colours don't exactly seem true to the Register image,no major surprise , but there is no green in the actual cloth, so what appears as a green is actually black,but it does look very nice regardless.

    "'Curiouser and curiouser', said Alice"

    This is the threadcount and pallet:

    Threadcount:
    DRB6
    LN12
    DRB32
    DB2
    DRB8
    DB4
    DRB6
    DB6
    DRB6
    DB8
    DRB4
    DB10
    DRB2
    DB20
    A50
    R12

    Pallet:
    R=EE0000 RED
    A=66FFCC AZURE
    DB=003333 DARK NAVY BLUE
    DRB=000077 DARK ROYAL BLUE
    LN=BBBBBB LIGHT GREY

    So I suppose the Army is represented by 'the thin red line'.

    I still like it.

    Regards

    Chas

    Looking at it again under very harsh strong light the "black" on the fabric is probably VERY dark navy blue, so at least the thread count is right just not the image on the Register!

    About 18 months ago I emailed the SRT with various comments and one was about screen colours.

    They sent back a rambling and almost incoherent message with next to no punctuation. One sentence just flowed into the next and the next and the next. The up shot (I believe) is that the computer programme makes a 'best guess' at the colours. It looks at the first one in the threadcount and makes all the rest fit the pallet. Unless someone goes around behind it and corrects any errors, we get what we get.

    Regards

    Chas

    The Scottish Register of Tartans, a database of tartans created by an act of Parliament to record tartans, old and new, the attempt being to try and put all the different records in one place,it's not yet perfect, but it's a start! link here

    I have to disagree about the STR. It was started with all the right intentions but it is rapidly deteriorating into a farce. It certainly doesn't record all the old setts and only records new ones for a fee. In my experience they are very bad at correspondence, especially when they get something wrong such as registering a design as new that already exists - they just don't answer.

    I think I said ....attempt to try put all the records in one place.... I didn't actually say it was working! My experience of it isn't perfect either, so I think we are most likely in agreement!

    I think that is a very handsome tartan, with a wonderful idea behind it.
