I went to see Brave yesterday and wore a kilt. My family was scandalized!
I got the usual looks but nothing negative. I got the distinct impression that no one connected the kilt to the movie...
As the movie was ending a woman walked up and gave me a high five, saying she liked the kilt.

Went Saturday with my wife, Daughter, and grandson. Yes I was in my US tartan kilt from USA Kilts. Great movie and I agree this one will be added to my Blueray collection.

I went opening night. After the show a kind lady with a commonwealth accent asked if I could explain to her American grandchildren why it is that a kilt is not a skirt. I was already thanks to reading posts here and delivered an x marks classic:
"Well, of course a kilt is a kind of skirt, but if you don't know the difference - sidelong glance at the grandsons here- you are at risk of dating extremely ugly women."

I didn't go opening night, but opening weekend. I set up some publicity events for the movie at a local theater chain to help publicize the movie along with our local highland games. We had a pair of dancers, pipers and a drummer. I was there to wrangle and chat up folk. We played out side in front of the theater complex at passing times between shows and inside the main theater itself that was showing Brave on the biggest screen right before the show. It was all very well received and the theater management was pleased by the buzz we helped to bring. I will try to post some photos--I know: no pictures, it didn't happen. They even comped us to get into the movie when we finished.

My wife and I went Sunday afternoon to a small mutiplex a couple of blocks from our home. There weren't too many people there and since I wear the kilt all the time any way the staff is used to seeing me so there weren't any comments going in. After the film I was waiting for my wife to use the restroom and a couple of ladies walked by. They just shrugged and didn't say anything to me but as they walked down the hall I hear one of them theorize that I must be there to promote the film.
I quite like the film. The story line is not particularly remarkable but it was certainly enjoyable. I think they did a pretty good job on the visuals of tartan fabric and they treated the wearing of kilts in a natural, unremarkable way. That is to say, they avoided making kilts a foil for jokes. If you watch the details the visual elements like fabric, fur, flowing and falling water were absolutely amazing.

Finally got a chance to see BRAVE at a small local theater this afternoon with my wife. Wore my Clan Hay tartan kilt. I asked the ticket seller if I got in free with the kilt, but she offered free popcorn (with a smile) instead and I accepted. It is a small theater in a small town so I don't think they could afford to lose a full ticket. The popcorn was only 50 cents if your brought your bucket. But a fair trade.
I quite liked the movie overall.
No special comments that I heard from other patrons, but got some smiles. So a good day.
Here is a picture of my kilt.

Went with my wife, daughter, son-in-law and grandkids. No big deal for me to go kilted, since I am usually kilted, but it was my son-in-law's first time out in a kilt. He is fairly introverted, but he managed a good kilted swagger for the occasion! I think a lot of the children there for the movie got a kick out of seeing some ACTUALLY wear a kilt in person.

My friends and I are going Thursday... There will be at least 3 kilts in the group -- maybe as many as 5. I'll try to get a picture. We are going to a movie theater I've never been to before in Clovis, CA. Clovis tends to be a bit more conservative than Fresno (where I live), so we will see what the reactions are.
I'll try to get pics!
Chris
PS If anyone in the Fresno/Clovis etc. area wants to join us, PM me, and I'll get you the details!
I wish I had something funny or profound to put in a signature.

Went with my mother, and wife today kilted in my USA semi-trad Holyrood. No negative comments and a couple of nice kilt remarks. Entertaining film and I was glad to find that none of the adverts gave away the story line.
