I'm very much a traditionalist. As far as kilts go, I only wear a 8 yard 16oz. kilt and only in my clan tartan. I don't go in for many of the modern accoutrements that many persons currently use. Please, don't interpret this as any type of condemnation of non traditional kilt wear, it's just who I am

I wear both elastic garters with wool flashes, as well as traditional garter ties. I find both equally comfortable and I never really notice that I am wearing them. If you do, then you have them on too tight.

    Cheers,

Hahaha! Well, I'm not entirely sure about that, mate! Wear whatever works for you.

    Cheers,
I agree with Kyle - I have both and use both. If I am going to be on my feet all day then I will wear my elastic garters. So easy to adjust if needed. And as has been noted, it is easy to get just the right shade to match, tie, shirt, stripe on your kilt, or whatever.

Would our ancestors have used elastic garters? Of course they would - they are cheaper! Our forefathers were not known for throwing their money away!

    Regards

    Chas

Have just received my pack of 4 woollen garter ties with elastic garters for the princely sum of £11 from an eBay seller. At first glance they are not the highest quality in the world but for £2.25 a pair they are excellent value. The "gold" colour is more orange but other than that they are fine. they will get their first outing at Harpenden highland games. The elastic garters would easily fit 20 inch calves without cutting of the blood supply to your feet. So my 17 inch calves are no problem for them. All things said they are a bit of a bargain.
