    New SWK Blackwatch has arrived

The bug has bit. It started innocently enough with a casual utility kilt and now I've inched up to an amazingly comfortable tartan, 8 yrds yes, but alas, not of wool. One goes where one's budget permits. I found the package waiting for me when I got home from work today, shredded the box to get to the goodies. Fits around my waist like it was made for me. However, despite my 6 foot height, I've surprisingly short legs, so the 24" is bit too long. Anyone know of a tailor in the Chicago area that knows what a kilt is and can take it up a couple of inches? A first hand recommendation would be most welcome (scratches head, "can I ask about that here?") ...

Be sure that you're wearing it high enough...I'm 5/10-ish and the 24 inch lengths do fit when worn at the right spot. Shortening the Stillwater acrylic kilts is a longstanding topic of discussion here...to my mind, there has never been a good resolution of the problem, though...

The problem might be easily solved! Just raise the whole caboodle up two inches. Without getting too technical, it is not unusual for the top of the kilt to be one, two, three, four and a tad inches above the belly button. It might look and feel rather strange if you are used to modern trouser height, but actually for a kilt it is fine to wear it with the top above the belly button. Try it?

I'll try hiking it up a bit more. I just don't want the belt up around my armpits <G>. I still find myself amazed at the disparity of the ratio betwixt my legs and my torso. A trait I inherited from my father.

    Im with the others.
24 inches is a standard length for many off the shelf kilts. Im 5' 8" & I have 2 kilts that length. Hickin up the top,& wearin the bottom should solve your problem.

Remember - Without pix it didnt happen.

OK, tried it every which way ... the rise works out to be like 5 inches above the navel. And that just looked silly on me. My crystal ball says there's a tall dark tailor in my future ...

You'll no doubt find photos of military men in kilts that stop just under their ribs fairly easily...

The 2 of mine that were made for me both stop about 3 fingers below the ribs...

You could always roll the top over to shorten it... What... I'm just trying to be helpful...

As was mentioned previously by knotty I believe... Why not post pics and we'd be in a better position to advise...

Or you could as you said just see a tailor...

Hmmm I never thought about folding over the top. As to the other suggestion, I could wear it that high, but I just don't like how it looks on me. It sort of emphasizes my gut more than I'd like. I'll get some pics done and we'll what y'all think.

Rumour has it that schoolgirls have been doing it for years...
