This really burns me up! I live just two towns to the south of Layton at Farmington. My neighborhood is wonderful! Back in the day when my kilt fit I'd wear it at times to church, not a word or even a look. One Sunday I wore the kilt to church as did my children. Week later I noticed sitting behind me a South Sea Islander wearing his lava-lava, with a thumbs up to me. Your neighbors have no reason to complain. Not all Utah is close minded as this. One encounters this anywhere they live. Just have to find them, unfortunately several of this kind are in your neighborhood. I suggest posting to the Utah Scottish Association website, then invite your neighborhood to a block bar-b-q and invite the Association too.

FYI I like the poster on the 'ladies from hell' that is posted on Xmarks. Perhaps you might post it in your front yard.

Riverkilt you hit it on the head there.

Actually my little Neighborhood is a nice one its just a group of them that seem to like a little drama stirring. Yes all but one were wearing pants. I stated to them, then go home and throw on a dress. I myself am a peace keeper. Im not part of the in crowd on the block, if you know what I'm saying. I am not LDS. But to this day they respect that. My Son is high in spirit about wearing his Kilt. He did say back 500 years we would have popped there heads off and been on our way. Gotta love a youngsters mind.

Gael Farmington is a mighty fine place. However no matter how nice of a place there will always be that one person. It takes one person to create a crowd to hate.

I'm guessing your angry neighbors are LDS and just haven't gotten the LDS word on kilts yet....they're Okay!!!

I am overjoyed to say I have never encountered anything even close to this kind of narrow minded bigotry, fear and hatred. You have my deepest sympathies. You are to be commended for standing tall. Perhaps there are some positive educational experiences which your son may provide to his community about kilts and heritage.

And did you report this attempt at intimidation to the police? I don't know much about Utah law, but here if you were fearful for yourself or your son it could be interpreted as assault. Honest. I had to know that stuff when I was the principal of the school.

As I said, I don't know much about Utah law, but respectfully, I just got a lesson on Utah intelligence - at least as regards to your neighbours.

PM me the address of your neighborhood. I'll be in Sandy visiting my daughter in Aug. and would love to take a stroll with my grandkids (all kilted in Campbell Ancient) around your block.

I am so shocked that such a thing like this could happen and have no other words.

    Regards
