Am I the only guy that knows more about pleats than his wife?

Kind of a funny story...to me anyway...

I was talking to the wonderful Ms. Bonnie Heather Greene about a kilt that she is making for me. I have to say, I absolutely adore her work. While discussing a variety of details, the topic of pleating options came up. I took the time to ask my wife what she thought about the difference between a box pleat and knife pleats. Her response, "I'll have to google what that means."

It got me to thinking, because we discuss at great length the most minute details of our kilts, do we loose track of where the "normal" person's knowledge is exceeded? I just assumed my wife knew the difference. However to her, the pleats are just pleats.

Anyone else notice this or something similar?

In the field of kilts, we're abnormal in a lot of ways... regarding our knowledge base, that is.

Spartan Tartan, you're not on your "Pat Malone". If I start talking about pleat styles, the fell and tartan at home, she that must be obeyed, standard answer is, Yes Dear, that's nice dear.

Try talking about knitting patterns, or, even more fun, read them out loud.

My Mrs. knows nothing about sewing at all, much less different pleatings.

My lass has actually picked up quite a bit of the terminology. It helps her to communicate with me more effectively when she decides to exercise her rightful say as to what I wear

No... I had to explain "to stripe" and "to sett" for about the five-hundredth time, only this very evening. I guess it helps if you have an interest to start with.

You can't MAKE people love ALL aspects of kilts.
