I gave up entirely trying to explain "to the stripe/sett" awhile ago. I tried that once and realised that was too much for her level of detailed interest.

My wife does not know the difference between 'to iron' and 'to press'.

    As in -

"Let me iron your kilt for you.

"Thank you dear, but I will press it myself in a moment."

    Regards

    Chas

Father, thank you for clearing that up as I was about to take offence and reply that only some of the rabble were abnormal (the rest of us are just weird).

But, no. I don't believe Spartan Tartan's experience is unusual. Then again, our attention to detail is really no different than those in other fields. To me white wine is white wine. It has a nice taste. It fits my budget. Don't really care from which side of the hill the grapes came.

Yep, box pleat was tough enough to explain, but military box pleat was when my wife glazed over and left the room with a parting comment, "whatever".

Yes. I will be getting a new kilt in the near future. Clan MacTavish is getting ready to place a special order for 70 meters of its hunting tartan. Fellow X-Marker was kind enough to provide a photoshop image to represent what the kilt would look like were it to be pleated to one of the wide stripes as well as one of the narrow stripes. An unpleated image gave a good idea of how it would look pleated to the set. As I was discussing the options with my wife, she was just positive I was mistaken about the image pleated to the wider stripe, and insisted it was pleated to the set. It was only when I showed her David's original explanation of the images that she got the picture. I suppose in all fairness, though, I should say that I'm visually impaired, and my wife thought I had not gotten a good look at the images.

    I guess I'm lucky.

My wife knows all of them, even the reverse box and double box.... But, then again, she really likes my backside in pleats.

I have no idea what my wife knows, or thinks, about pleats, particularly kilt pleats, but she really cannot believe that grown men can be bothered to discuss these rather trivial(????!!!!!)matters ad infinitum. I have to say we, the Rabble, do tend to labour the assorted finer points of kilt construction and kilt attire a tad--------well ok------more than a tad---------er, well--------- a lot more than a tad---------- well alright -------------we talk it to death ---------every now and then---------well, alright---------- quite a lot --------and beyond-------------- on occasion----------------or even---------again------and again--------and again------and------------------again-----------and-----------!

Still, what else is there to talk about? No! Don't answer that!
