I had several ancestors in Pennsylvania, but they were only there for a VERY short time (coming up on 149 years ago in a couple of weeks).

That's a lovely tartan, though, and you did a fine job with the color choice.

Hey, Rocky, I just realized you're a year early, but this is just in time for the 250th Anniversary of the Battle of Bushy Run (August 1763). I actually grew up near there.

Rocky, a few questions, if I may:

    1) Could you possibly show a picture with this fabric next to the HOE 13oz wool you ordered last year? Just wanted to see how they compared.

    2) My only experience with a kilt is my Henderson 5-yard, 13oz wool kilt. I have found it warm enough in winter (down to 15F) and cool enough in summer (over 90F last week). From your experience, how will this PV compare (considering we are both Pennsylvanians, I am particularly interested in your opinion).

    3) Will it be possible to get this in an 8-yarder? (assuming this is my last chance to get a kilt in PA tartan at an incredibly good price)

    4) Last, what is your expert assessment of this material compared to last year's HOE wool?

    Thanks!

Sorry in advance for the short response... we're packing for a festival and I took a break for 2 minutes to answer emails before we do the heavy lifting...

    1. Unfortunately, no... packing for the festival and have no time right now...
    2. I like my PV in summer and my wool in winter. I do 'mix it up' a bit and wear wool in summer on occasion as well, but I find PV a little cooler and I can sweat in it (like I will be this weekend) and just throw it in the wash.
    3. Not an 8 yard wool kilt. We'll only be able to do a Semi Trad or Casual in it. The ship for the PA Wool tartan sailed (though if we get a group together of 5 people or more, I may be able to pull it off).
    4. Not sure exactly what you mean by that one... this material is PV and last year's was wool. Both have their place and both are good "for what they are". COLOR wise, they're very similar (both done in the "muted" color scheme).

    I hope these answers help!

Off to pack up. I probably won't be back up here for the next few days... internet access will be limited.

    hello,

have ancestor Henry Clay (grgrgrda) he and his brother (Chas or John??) were born in Germantown near Philadelphia I guess about .....1840's but havent nailed them to where they were or family there beyond that Clay being Scottish at all if not an English name (I "sume" ..Livingstone or MacLeay) ..but no paper yet ..I'll work on it ..it looks like US Army as a quick look ..seems neat enough for any Pa folk and Pa had it's share of Scots way back I hear in 1700's ..besides German folks taking root ..lots of highland soldiers passed thru in Fr Ind War ..stature "Claywise" his son is right on the nosey but half Irish himslef as his ma was daughter of Irish gr........grunny in US in 1850 but no daddy in NY . He Henry looked Scottish more than Irish I saw his pic looked like Old Mtn Phelps the Adirondack guide ..his son I met about 1962-1964 aged ..-mid 80ish or so ..born 1871 . Francis (grgrda) was 5'2" and "half" Irish ..

    good luck ..nice .

Ran into Rocky at the Celtic Fling at Mount Hope, and just wanted to see the Pennsylvania State Tartan, just looking you understand.

Of course Rocky, evil genius that he is, has a Pennsylvania Tartan casual, on the rack, IN MY SIZE . I took this as a sign that i had to buy it. I also took it to Orlando and Charleston with me for vacation the next day.

No pics yet, sorry, but it is even better looking in person - very rich colors. I got lots of compliments on it, including about a dozen from Scottish tourists.

Thinking I might need to change my residency to PA! That is a beautiful tartan!
