Sounds all too familiar...they've moved the Chicago area Highland Games from Oak Brook to Itasca and I can't help but think that part of it is because the Oak Brook site got flooded too often...

[QUOTE=Grizzly;1107158]Hopefully those who were going to the Ashbourne games will now make the journey to Harpenden. Could be quite a meet up. I believe that the obligatory group photo will be 2.00pm at Chas's tent.

I'll be diverting from Ashbourne. Please excuse my ignorance but where will I find Chas's tent. Is it a trade stall ?
    See you there !

    Hello All,

Only just spotted this thread. All those coming to Harpenden, rather than Ashbourne - you won't be disappointed.

    A little bit of history.

Harpenden always used to be the weekend before Ashbourne, so many could go to one then the other. I did so last year. As many of you will know, I run a XMarks information tent at Harpenden and when I was at Ashbourne, I enquired if we could do the same there. They said yes and that they would email in January. But they never did - I am still waiting.

The Lions Committee felt that their regular date was hampering them as it always fell on the British F1 race day. (Not that it was either/or, go to the games or go to the race. But rather go to the games or watch it on TV). They have been meaning to move the date for some years now and this is the first year.

For those who have not been to Ashbourne before - it is an adventure in itself. Just getting into the car park requires good off-road skills. You are required to drive over an earth bank and halfway it is all on trust as a driver can no longer see the road - you drive blind, till it falls away on the other side. Not for the faint-hearted.

The Lions have been talking about making it an all weekend event for some time - we shall have to see.

    Regards

    Chas
