Tweed Jacket made-to measure on ebay

The Cairngorm range of Tweeds woven by Marton Mills are listed as weighing 335gsm.

If we convert this to the same system we use for kilt fabric, in ounces per yard, this would equate to 16oz. fabric.

I have the Highland fabrics swatch books and the feel is very similar in weight to the Jura range of fabrics.

The jackets we have received in these fabrics have been very nice. I have one in the Loden/Craig.

Thanks Steve I was hoping that it wS the Cairngorm but it appears to be the Cheviot which is also listed as being 16oz. Hopefully it will be similar but just from a different sheep.

the first kilt I got is made from Cheviot tweed, and that tweed is a 16 oz one.

As a side not: I had a good experience with tartan4less. Ordered a ex-hire kilt on thursday evening that got shipped on friday morning.

Marcus (kiltmonk) had similar good experiences. The ex-hire he wanted to order was sold minutes before in their shop, but he got a good deal for a made-to-mesasure and email communication was very fast.

The Cheviot range of fabrics from Marton Mills are their single color Tweeds. (well, if you can call a Tweed single color)
The Cairngorm range are the windowpane Tweeds.

Pipersson, for what it's worth, Heritage of Scotland has a variety of made to measure tweed jackets with waistcoats in a wide assortment of tweeds, including Harris Tweeds, for about the same price ($300.00 US). They do tend to have difficulty making advertized timelines, sometimes by months, but I have always received my merchandise as ordered. Not making excuses for bad practices, just if you are willing to sometimes wait longer than expected you can get a great deal on jackets made of top notch fabric, especially if you take advantage of their frequent %15 off sales.

@Steve: MM has a Loden Crag in Cheviot and in Cairngorm what is really confusing...but I think also cheviot will be fine.

@MacMillan's son: Unfortunately I'll have to pay 20 % VAT and there is no discount visible at the moment so jacket and waiscoat together would be at € 330,- plus about € 40,- for shipping. Alltogther € 370.- (USD 450,-). GBP 210,- for Jacket, waistcoat and shipping at Tartan4less is much less (€ 270,-/USD 330.-)... So not a real choice :-(

@Jörg: Which colour does it have? Maybe a choice for the Brave-Kilt-Night in Südhessen ;-) Tartan4less seems to be a serious company.

Another problem...!
My GF finds it won't match with my new Smith ancient kilt.
But I don't see the problem.
She likes a charcoal or lovat green jacket better because of the pattern...
