Wedding Advice
I am travelling from Scotland to New York to get married and I have decided to buy a kilt. I love wearing a kilt and feel that it can suit almost any occasion. However, I have one problem and hope that some of you guys could help me out.
I have not purchased the kilt yet but know which one I shall be going for. Although the picture shows a rough idea of what my outfit will be on my wedding day, this is not the exact style.
My problem is the shoes, I don't want to wear the traditional Ghillie Brogues.
Does anybody recommend any alternative shoes, boots etc to match the outfit and that is suitable for my wedding day. Pictures would be really good too.
Thanks very much in advance.

I wear a very similar outfit to weddings and do not wear ghillie brogues. I wear a pair of black brogues. They have "normal" laces and can be worn as "smart" shoes. Sorry but I do not have a picture.
Good luck for your wedding. You have chosen an exciting location - enjoy!

Agreed, a normal pair of brogues.
Personally I don't know why anyone would wear ghillie brogues if they weren't dancing.
(just my 2 cents but all black for a wedding?)

Any pair of black leather dress shoes that would be appropriate to wear with a dark suit would work just as well with this outfit. No need at all for the ghillie brouges if you do not like them. They are not essential in the slightest.

Normal black Oxfords (with or without toe-cap style) would be first rate, emminently re-useable at a later date, and much more than acceptable.
Congratulations, and don't forget - we'll want to see wedding pictures when the time comes. Love to your bride, and blessings to both!

Damn! Father Bill beat me to it! LOL.
Any decent dress shoe would do but Oxfords, in my mind, would look best.

I wear Oxfords with my kilt all the time.
I do not want to be negative, but I can't help it. There is too much black in that outfit! Are you going to a wedding or a funeral? Black is not "COOL" - it is dark, forbidding and a little bit creepy. Black is not a fashion statement - it is a lack of statement. All it says is 'I am too frightened to make a decision'.
Sorry, but I think you might be making a big mistake.

Alright, if we use your picture example, this is what I see that might be changed to advantage. I agree the shirt could be changed and white is really a good and traditional option here, pale blue is a thought. I think the tie could be more cheerful(it is a wedding after all!!) and of a traditional type. The jacket would be better undone, and assuming the waistcoat fits(it does look as though it is too short) then the belt needs removing. Or, keep the belt and loose the waistcoat and you might need to, if the weather is hot. Some more cheery hose would be my choice too and perhaps maroon might be a thought. Without getting into the morass of the "white hose debate" , I genuinely think white hose in this instance would not help the look one bit. Last, but not least, well shone black shoes would be perfect.
