Hey Jerry, the wife and I were over in Scotland the last of May. I only saw a few kilts. Mostly hanging up for sale along the Royal Mile. Our tour guide did wear one, and I saw a few at Edinburg Castle. Culloden is very moving. Enjoy Scotland, I can hardly wait to go back.

If you are posting to answer the question of the OP he probably won't ever see it.
His last post in this thread was June 12th, that seems to be the day our resident didactics finally wore him down.
But in any event, no reason not to keep this topic going.

Wow you guys do a lot more kiltwearing that I do!
I'm a piper and like most pipers I wear Highland Dress when I'm out performing on the pipes, and not at other times.
Unlike most pipers, I don't dislike wearing the kilt (they view it as an uncomfortable obligation) and I do wear the kilt to Scottish events that I'm not playing at, and to support Scottish rugby.
Perhaps part of the issue is that my kilts are all wool tartan (mostly heavyweight) 7 or 8 yard handsewn kilts. Like most pipers, I don't care for sport kilts and utility kilts and casual kilts.

I am in the same category as you Richard. I will only wear 8 yard kilts of Medium or Heavy weight; And in my own Clan's Tartan. My personal reason is due to tradition; I believe that sport and utility kilts are seen as costumes/gag attire to the public. I tend to wear my kilt atleast twice a month.

I stick to special occasions. Weddings, Highland games, dinners at the Haven(the local Scottish joint). I would love to wear it more but I'm just not that comfortable with myself yet.

Ok, for me, it is daily except for work due to wearing a uniform is required. No kilts on VERY WINDY DAYS!! Other than that my Kilts are worn daily, anyplace, anytime. And Yes I do wear my Kilts daily.Every month in the year. I often wear my Armstrong Kilt when I go down to the HomeDepot. Sunday grocery shopping...why not. Been there, done that. Two weeks spent in Scotland back in 2009 saw me every day wearing my kilt! Just a very loud and proud Scottsman who was born in the USA.

If I am not at work I am in my kilt.

Well, my opinion and my wife's are quite a bit apart in this. I'm planning on wearing my kilt whenever I feel like it, mostly at home since I only own one kilt (which is currently exchanged for a smaller size) and she told me she doesn't want to go out with me in a kilt. But, I just ignored her (she's also 37 weeks pregnant at the moment so arguing is not in my best interest at the moment due to hormones and sleepless nights) but I'll certainly will be wearing it in public, whether she likes it or not. I don't buy the whole "they will call it a skirt" story (and my 5yo daughter loves how it looks and swings) and just assume as soon as she is used to it we'll see.
Might be a good idea not going around pushing a stroller though while wearing a kilt, just to be on the safe side

Only on seriously hot and humid days, when I'm working out, and at water parks do I not wear my kilt.
