Those have the pattern only at the top, as they are intended to be worn with spats.
You can buy hose which are plain and have a pattern at the very top, only on the turned over cuff, which already have feet.

The full tartan hose cost due to the amount of time they take, all the fiddly changes of colour and the number of different tartans and shades of colour. Even using a knitting machine would take a long time, the indivdual colours are placed by hand then the row knitted, then the next row placed. It is faster than hand knitting but very wearisome.
I am sure that I have seen making the bias cut leggings described on the forum - maybe the search function will find them.

			 Tartan Cuff Hose

					Hi,
Have you seen the Tartan Cuff Hose available from http://www.BonnieTartan.com ?

They're a lot cheaper than full tartan hose or the hose tops that are worn with spats.

I posted a photo of my pair here months ago.

I have a pair of those. I think it could work - with time and patience. And advice from an elderly female relative who knows about sewing and knitting.
