    Buchanan Modern kilt

Hello, I am new to this forum and need some advice. I would like to know where I can find a good quality Buchanan modern kilt, without spending a whole lot of money. Also I am very allergic to wool, what would be a good material for a kilt?

Where do you live? We cannot advise if your whole budget will be taken up on shipping.

USA Kilts makes two relatively inexpensive kilts in Buchanan Modern in poly-viscose.

My son has a Buchanan Modern from Rocky at USA kilts. It's their Casual (PV) model. It is very colorful and looks great.

If you want something that looks a bit more traditional (eg straps and buckles), take a look at USA's Semi Traditional kilts, also PV. Good luck on your decision and enjoy your kilt.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Being into tartan and tradition, my only advice would be to try to get the original traditional symmetrical Buchanan sett rather than the asymmetrical sett, which was the result of a single badly-painted illustration in a 19th century book. The same book gave a thread count which indicated the symmetrical sett.

Here's the earliest Buchanan tartan, recorded in 1831, an ordinary symmetrical tartan

Today it's sometimes called "Buchanan Old" and woven in soft colours

But an 1843 book, though giving an accurate thread count, suffered from an illustrator who was sometimes slapdash in his work, and who made errors in a number of tartans including Buchanan.

For some unknown reason the weavers then changed their Buchanan to match the erroneous painting, resulting in the so-called "Modern" Buchanan
