Well, thanks for that. Thanks a LOT for that. Now for some reason I pictured myself in kilt dancing to "the devil went down to Georgia". Mean piece of violin in that one, and it's counterpart (went back to Georgia). The music and that horrible image of myself will stick with me all night

Charlie Daniels grew up in Wilmington, North Carolina. In his younger years he worked at the utility pole plant. If you can imagine how miserable that job must be (soaking power poles in boiling creosote in the hot sun) you can well imagine why he practiced the fiddle with such determination.

    knickers -hip

as you know USA lost out speaking German by 1 vote . NY was a ..work cmap for refugess after the Wars of Marlboro wreckin the nighborhood ..and Queen Anne brought em on over for a vacation to England ..etc ..and it was expensive ..so they'd send em to NY Germantown and make naval stores ..they'd been promised land by Chief Brant of the 4 chiefs visiting London to the Queen including the great Hendrick ..Germantonw didnt; work out well they poicked up got ticked hiked over to schoharie Valley and took land they were promised ..so western Mohawk Valley was quite German ..adn they bumped and played games with their Scottish neighbors in Chery Valley and Kingsbury Johnstown . So as they say in Aberdeen .."fit d'ya cry it's thicker'n thingme" . [Bloods thicker than water] .
    the end ..maybe

so the moral of the story is ..back in the day even dear old Dad wore knickers ..Knickerbockers ..and in the 1700's deerskin Knickers tailored were very common here ..and I'd bet durable .

Germans fought along side Highlanders at Saratoga and a German soldat sketched the varipous uniforms and gives a nice Black Watch gear and unifrom detail .
