    Correct sporran question

I have yet to get a sporran, mostly because I have not found one that I like in my price range. I found...

It is affordable actually real cheap, but will it be in bad taste to wear this as a casual/day sporran? Is it still semi formal?
I am abit unclear mostly because the shape is different from the standard daywear.

I don't know what to think of that kind of sporran. That type of sporran is listed as a dress sporran at kiltmaker's sites. However, mostly it seems that dress sporrans should be fur, and daysporrans of leather.

Anyway, that question aside, I haven't heard very favorable things about products from Thump music.

it looks like on paw has

the sporran looks like the one my dad has from when he was in the shriners pipes and drums unit.

if it is in yer budget and you like it then buy it and see how it is. not very many people that dont wear kilts are going to know the differance if it is a dress sporran or even what it is.

although i dont like e bay you might check there fer a daily wear sporran or you might post in the wanted section of this here site that you want one and what price range you are wanting one in.

    thanks

You should have no problems with this Sporran as it is a hunting type (targe)very usable for day wear or whatever.
There are fur and leather types which are a little dressier, which you can use for both evening and daywear.
    The choice is yours

Might want to go for a sporran strap nstead of a chain though. It's a little less dressy, and won't damage your kilt like a chain over large periods of wear.

    I couldn't agree more.
My straps in the post at the moment .So I'm using a chain at present. It's ok and I havn't detected any wear as yet.I do think however, that a strap is better for day wear.Having said that. Use what you have for the time being.

Freelander, looking at that sporran, I'd say you could wear it for most any occasion. Rules don't really mean that much as long as the total appearance is coordinated. I think it has more to do with the overall look more than any one specific item.

Making a sporran strap is pretty simple. I made mine out of latigo leather and used trigger clips. They're more secure and solid than the spring type.

I have purchased from Thumpmusic, quality is suspect. You get what you pay for...
